Got Milk Kefir?

Such a wonderful & probiotic rich drink – Milk Kefir - I just love the benefits and the price tag!

I was introduced to milk kefir about 3 years ago. At that time, I was dealing with horrible cystic acne on my cheeks and had a tried a wide variety of remedies and nothing was helping. Over time, I realized my acne increased substantially whenever I ate Greek yogurt - I was reacting to dairy.  Here I was at 40 and having my first ever food reaction. A friend suggested I look into using milk kefir to see if it would help.  This was the first time I had ever even heard of milk kefir so I was excited to learn more.

Milk kefir is full of naturally occurring bacteria and yeast living in symbiosis as the result of the fermentation process. Kefir is loaded with vitamins, minerals and easily digested protein. It can even be consumed by the lactose intolerant because the yeast and bacteria provide the enzyme lactase, an enzyme which consumes most of the lactose left after the culturing process.

After several hours of researched, I bought my first set of kefir grain. After making and drinking milk kefir for a week, my cystic acne started subsiding.  Within 2 weeks, it was completely gone!  I was amazed and thrilled.  I typically used the kefir in my protein shake since I’m not a big fan of the taste of buttermilk – which is what the taste reminded me of.  I wanted to share this wonderful source of probiotics with my family (they also don’t like the taste of buttermilk) so I looked into making water kefir & for recipes that I could use the milk kefir in.  When you sign up below, you’ll get instant access to my 12 page recipe eBook which includes recipes for milk kefir, coconut milk kefir and water kefir.

So why would anyone want to drink fermented milk?  Here are a few reasons.

"Unlike yogurt, kefir contains around 30 strains of bacteria and yeast, mostly including lactobacillus bacteria. The culture comes in little translucent balls called grains, though these grains have nothing to do with any kind of cereal. They are a complex bio-matrix structure of soluble gel-polysaccharide, organic acids, yeasts and bacteria. This polysaccharide called Kefiran is made from two mono-saccharides, glucose and galactose in almost equal proportions.

  • Kefiran has anti-tumor properties, preventing the development of metastasis.
  • It is an anti-inflammatory and is an excellent stimulant for your immune system.
  • The grains produce their own antibiotics.
  • Kefir is rich in minerals and vitamins, particularly the B group, and vitamin K2.
  • Kefir slows the ageing process and has many healing properties, helping with heart and artery disease, lowering cholesterol levels and regulating hypertension / blood pressure.
  • It assists your digestive system, healing the liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, gall bladder and stomach ulcers, and soothing your digestive and urinary tracts." ~From Grow Youthful
